Gaston Abel Ayon Munguia (PhD student) won the second place in the Photo/Map Competition sponsored by the Landscape Specialty Group that I am chairing. His photo is “Inheritor”.

Here is the comment from the award committee: “We were impressed with the story of this photo and felt it adhered very well to the landscape theme. This photo scored high for technique and for impact as well. We liked the composition of the photo with the urban landscape in the distance and the young child in the foreground. The use of black and white also seemed very fitting. We felt the call to landscape geographers to develop new and effective ways of protecting landscapes and existing within them in a world increasingly impacted by land use change and urbanization was also appropriate and timely.”
